A COMPLETE RETHINK

Sometimes to move forward you must reset and restart.

At Denton Reserve our goal is to protect and preserve the planet in every way we can, focusing on regeneration and recovery and holding nature at the heart of everything we do.

Denton Reserve combines a landscape restoration project of national significance, with food production and the creation of unique hospitality and wellness experiences that help people reconnect with the outside world and themselves.

Our Mission

We’re driven by an ambition to deliver nature recovery at scale. We are committed to regenerating the land and rebalancing nature, climate and food production.

Our landscape at Denton Reserve will be repurposed and reimagined to help address the climate crisis, increase biodiversity and grow local, sustainable food.

Led by the landscape, we aim to strike a balance that’s respectful of tradition but not weighed down by it, creating a place that’s for both nature and people.

In the UK, 60% of the average diet is made up of ultra-processed food.

It’s our goal to reverse this trend by growing good quality produce that form part of Denton Reserve's delicious food offerings.

A transition to regenerative farming will demonstrate how these practices can help our land produce nutrient rich food, whilst making space for nature.

This includes restoring the historic walled garden and growing seasonal produce for the first time in over 60 years, and moving to a diversified model of agroforestry.

Where we can’t source food from the reserve, we’ll strive to turn food miles into food metres, working with sustainable and local suppliers to source the very best ingredients.
Human activity is warming our planet and the effects of climate change are already affecting every region on earth. With land use and agriculture accounting for around 12% of all UK greenhouse gas emissions, a rethink is needed.

At Denton Reserve we have 2.500 acres of Yorkshire land and a responsibility to make the best use of it, for the benefit of us all.

We’re going beyond sustainability to create a place that has a net positive impact on people and planet.

A nationally significant Landscape Recovery Programme is underway across the land which will deliver material benefits for nature and climate.

We're committed to preserving and restoring our moorlands, and by partnering with Yorkshire Peat Partnership and groups of dedicated volunteers, we are successfully planting thousands of plugs of sphagnum moss and installing leaky dams, that will sequester thousands of tonnes of carbon.
Since 1970 global wildlife populations have plummeted by 69% while key pollinators and food for birds and wildlife have declined by nearly 60% in the last 20 years alone.

At Denton Reserve our aim is to preserve and enhance biodiversity. We’re moving away from traditional estate activities and adopting new land management methods that restore and regenerate the landscape and natural processes.

Working sensitively with, and for, nature we’re creating and enhancing natural habitats, improving soil health and we've already planted over 40,000 new trees.

In 2025 we will be embarking on an exciting project, introducing beavers to the reserve to aid flood management and increase biodiversity.
